For my second double spread layout design my ideas was to most of the text from the article that fitted in with the theme of ” finding out the issues and other people ” onto theses pages I knew theses pages should probably have the most text in out of the other two but I still believe I could design with dead space to give the feeling of emptiness in the head space.
To start of with designing the spread two I went in to the page 3 ( left side of spread ) and started to place the text out and placing one of the main quotes that stood out to me in the article, I used the grids and baseline grids to help keep the text in a neat way. The text layout I used was Justify all lines I felt that it gave the texts an amazing simple look and keeps all the text together.
going on page 6 ( right side of spread ) to help give me and idea of where my image is going to sit I placed a small box on the design to I can work around the image I did have box on the centre of the spread marking so it was on each page like the drawing on my sketch book, However I felt that half image wouldn’t be shown so I moved it onto the page 6.
Slowly adding onto my frist draft design of spread two I knew there a lot of errors with in my work like theres a lot of rivers inside the paragraphs and I felt I need to experiment more with the placement of the all text on left page.
below I went back into the draft to improve I knew to help develop my spreads I added in page numbers on each page but that opposite of top or bottom I wanted each spread to have a different layout and not to look the same as it would look boring.
I also added in another quote on the right side of the page of something that the characters says in the article, I felt that this quote was long but a good rhetical question to draw in peoples attention the spread hopefully to draw them to read the pages.
The next step I knew I needed to sort out was to was the texts and the rivers and adding into the image of my page to see what else can be developed after that.
Adding in the image that I had created for my spread made a huge impact on my work as it meant I felt I was slowly getting somewhere and I could see what everything looked like, I believe that my screen printed/ mixed media image works so well the theme of my spread of ” finding out about the medical issues and other people with the memory loss” , as the image is representing a tree with leafs falling as someone brains and leafs are people memory and due susie losing her memory the leafs the falling are memories going it .
Once I added in the Image I was reading my article more carefully and I found that there was another quote in the article that I felt was important so I made the quote to the size 15pt and change the typeface from Questa regular to questa italics, I did this to make the quote stand out more on the main texts of size 11pt. For any quotes that were in my article on my spread and I changed them all to Questa Italics so you see that someone had said them it helps links all quotes together.
From above you can see that I had changed the text layout and moved the text more to the bottom I felt that the layout of the texted needed to be tested out before I could make up my mind for the final design I felt that in the middle with loads of dead space below and above and this layout gave too much dead space above so I will work out what I prefer before packaging my final design.
I also changed the all text from Justify all lines to justify with all lines alighted left, this took all of the rivers and gave a more professional look to the design .
From nearly finishing this spread I went on to print it out with all other ones to see if everything was working once I printed it, I found out that my typefaces were a bit too big so I brought it down to a 10pt for main text and kept my quotes at 15 as they were a perfect size not too big and not too small that you cant see them.
The last couple of developments I decide to go a head and do was to remove all lines above quotes and add in my paint idea from when I creating in my images due to making my first spread I thought it would help my whole spread link with each other.
Below you can see that I had added in digital drawn question marks that were created by me, this was an try out with the question marks, I wanted to add in the question mark to be little illustration that fill in the space and be something the readers would question, I wanted the readers to a bit confused so they could get a feeling that susie the character goes through everyday.
But I’m very unsure if the question marks work or not so I will be asking peers on their opinions do they work and what layout did they prefer with left page text layout.
