editorial design – detail picking, typefaces & themes

In Any project or work design there will always be a certain theme or particularly colours, text that will. r curried without the progress of work, just like any other project I’ve picked certain elements I would want to use for certain design reasons here are some of them.

Typefaces

Due to my newest project is an editorial design project the text is very important as you want the article to be easy to read and see and suit in your work, design with a gothic typeface in something that romantic or profession based wouldn’t work so pick my typeface is important.

the idea typeface I would want for my title to be is bold thick text for the title that’s either san serif or even a serif, I could use a hand-written style so it looks like been written by the character however that type of text can hard to read and its not really eye catching for the main title.

The main text I would like the style to a san serif as I think it looks very sophisticated on design work and would fit in the article text.

colour theme

The type of colour theme that I think that would suit my Magazine spread based on my article would be simple neutral  classic colours of black and white  and grey  theses are simple visible colours for everyone that bold and simple to see, the grey would use as a detail area colour the grey will help show the darkness of the memory loss in the article as its not bright coloured.

I Also want to add a  pop of colour like a light pastel blue or a neural purple in the article every now and then to give the article some colour or make something stand out more.

Purple is also the colour for dementia even though the character doesn’t like to dementia having the article like this subject and having memory loss it might help know about dementia is a certain way.

images theme

the ideas I had for my work was to be a mixture of typography and images as I want to mix things up not sticking to one graphic area I will also try and add illustrations done by myself too into my work

My idea for design my imagery for my editorial work is to going to be going against the idea of no photos I want to include some images that can be used from `The character life but destroying them in away to show people how she might be feeling when she looks at the photos e.g I think blurring images will be good idea as it can be seen as character kinda feels that the memory isn’t their or its blurry when she tries to think back.

I want to destroy all the photos in different ways or leave them blank as blankness does have a meaning and this could link to character not having any memory to her past.

Another idea that I think I want to design for is making a metaphor out of something and experimenting  of ideas in my head .

spread details

  • everything kept simple – easier to read and relaxing on the eye as there’s not much on each page having too much on a page can bee seen as over powering, readers Are put off
  • Subheading on each page –  give a direction of what on each page, the reader doesn’t have to read each page as theirs small subheading telling you what’s on each one.
  •  Quotes – put in higher sizes then main text – seen as call outs, reader will see the bigger text and if they like what they are reading they will read the whole page.
  • Usage of colour – behind quotes – make them stand pulling reader eye.
  •  Usage of paint or small illustration – just something extra to add into the creative design spreads not too many as I don’t want to distract from the article.
  • Keeping pages minimum a lot of dead space – article is about a person with memory loose, having a empty space can represent the lack of memories she can remember.
