Professional practice- my choices

As the end of my degree is appearing closer and closer to me each day It time to start thinking more about my life outside of university and my choices that are out there, while I still don’t feel that confident in my design I really want to use the summer to develop my CV and build my portfolio up and build connection in the industry but I will still need to think about my choices that i could take in life to get my carrer going.

Internships

An internship is a work experience offered by employers often to students and graduates that is trying to explore the industry in summer months that they want to go into an internship can often be paid or sometimes unpaid but it’s a very short period of time that can often be a couple of weeks or 12 months. While looking for internships I found it was really hard to any decent looking internships in my area or in Bristol that had my passion or are of interest expect one in London ( this a place I don’t  imagine myself going to or wanting to live in as it makes my anxiety level rise too much ) Places that show good internships are LinkedIn, prospect and social media of the placement you want.

Work experience

In second year I really wanted to take place in some work experience in my industry i wanted to go into Branding and advertising to gain some experience but also insights of the industry however due to ko vids I couldn’t access this but now my degree has come up I really want to take some place into work experience over the summer to see if Brandon in advertising is what I want to do or go into a mark sisters degree in marketing work experience can be done at any point and for any long how depending on the company and what they would allow, in the next couple of days I will be sending an email to a couple of companies that I have used as inspiration for my degree but also companies that I really look up to see if I can get any Contacts but also a way to connect to gain some work experience as I think this would really benefit me as a designer and understand what I want to do.

when I was in my design for real live client brief I also gained some experience there of how to talk to clients but also people in the industry a connexion I have gained was Harry who was my mentor and Harry advised me to instead of asking for work experience to offer my free time to sitting cause order make tea and coffees in the studios but this could be over watching how companies run the business and substitute your life in experience if I do this in hire companies and put up my CV smaller companies are more likely to  want me due to having the high insight of the bigger companies .

Graduate schemes

a graduate scheme is a entry level for recent graduates where they are paid for the chosen job but are trained up on the job to build experience and knowledge in the company, graduate jobs are very big in London in design industry but can often be hard to get into it’s advised to have work internships before ot get into the graduate job overs others but graduate jobs can really help set you up as the job afterwards is often given out to the gradates is they have the skills and space in the company , A graduate scheme I found was a L’Oreal graduate marketing scheme in London however I’m really didn’t want to move away to London as that’s not for me so I will carry on looking seeing if there’s anything that catches my eye

full time job

throughout my degree I have maintained two jobs one as a supervisor but also in the previous months I have gained I promote two promotions from go in trainer to a supervisor the time off or my less stressful times I have 26-30 hours but this summer I will be carrying on this job and taking it full time hours, I really enjoy working full time and being hands on I feel so much happier than education but if education for a year means gaining my career I want I will do it, like I said over the summer I will be returning to my job full time working and using the places as a stepping stone to use for money but I can be flexible to and do work experience to build my cv up, while I love working I have looked into a full time job in the industry but due lack of experience It will be harder for me to get in so I will need to freelance and work in some studio until I get to where I’m meant to be.

masters degree –

When no studying and researching my dissertation I really found her passion for marketing and branding a company and I really thought about going down the route of designing for social media marketing side of the industry by really didn’t know where to go from there into reading online that my best option was to go into a Master’s degree in marketing. while looking around Masters degrees I didn’t know to look at the Open University and do it in my own space own time or to stay at Cardiff map where I found the best option are they digital marketing management msc, this Master’s degree could really unlock a lot of options in jobs that I would really love to enjoy that I cannot get with Justin normal degree so far.
