While designing my app in the last couple of days I came to a pause on my visual and what to do for my different choices of birth control, I had created box of the different choices but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to draw each choice such a pills and coil for the boxes or to think another way to make the the app links go another pages but have something visually that looked good instead of plain boxes, I came up with the idea of designing patterns that related to the chosen birth control, the reason why I’m debating on designing the actual look of the chosen birth control ls that some females still feel embarrassment and dislike the look of the choices so it could make the topic less taboo and more friendly and peaceful for the user to read and not feel a bit that the coil or pill is in their face.
Before drawing out the patterns that relate to chosen birth control I went and wrote down simple designs that link to the topic, theses we’re just simple things that come to mid or relate when I think of the chosen birth control.
- IUD/IUS – coils designs
- combined pill – dots two different pills – big and small
- mini pill – dots small
- implants – lines or stitches
- injections – drops
- vagina rings – circles no inside
- patch – stickers
- natural planning – leafs
- morning after pill – circle with lines coming off / sun
- cap – a dome
- condoms – unsure
- snip- ties/bow
Instead of drawing each pattern by hand then wasting more time I went straight in illustrator and used the paint brush to have more control and free handed illustration that give the design more a personal outcomes, I made each illustration very simple as having to much detail wasn’t needed on this design as I felt overpowering my ideas could take the users away from the app main purpose the patterns are way to have navigate them to the different choices.
Above are each contraception visual drawings that I designed, I feel that all the visual sketches really work and could help avoid the taboo and young girls embarrassment of seeing pills, coil, condoms so having a more friendly based sketch work really well I also think theses sketches could be improve a bit more by improving the sizes of the patterns or the colour patterns brighten up a bit more.
Above is what the. patterns look like within the app I think the the visuals being added at this point of the design work so well fit it brings the app more alive and the choices, by designing theses patterns it has given me a design idea of placing theses on my social media campaign or making move in some way to promote the app such as making a social media gif, or background that could placed on posters that could be taken onto a podcasts about sexual health or even in posters design that are in sexual health clinics as they aren’t too in you’re face and make females feel uncomfortable.
