dissertation design – inspiration tutorial.

Friday 5th of February was the first tutorial for dissertation design work, it was expected of us to have researched and looked into inspiration of editorial outcomes that linked to your dissertation of stood out to you in a way that can help you develop your own outcome, while I did research around editorial outcomes and made a mood board I also made a research blog on editorial outcomes that stood out to me the most. Below is the dissertation inspiration of my mine so far.

My idea behind the mood board was to get ideas that link to dissertation in areas and things that I want to explore as I feel they look really unique in design, my mood board includes a lot of handwritten typefaces I feel this could make the book more friendly and experimental instead of digital text that’s often seen everywhere, the layouts I love the most are more simplistic but also playful on the spreads while the colours are minimal of 3-4 colours.

The title of my dissertation is Society influences and emotional marketing used by healthy and beauty cosmetics brands to targets female consumers behaviour, the themes I had inside my dissertation was consumers behaviour that links to brands using emotional experiences in shops and packaging to increase consumerism buying behaviour and society gender norms, due my whole dissertation being about females I felt that I wanted to show the feminine design so my mood board show a lot of pinks because I feel it would really represent this idea.

While search and creating my mood board I came across the idea of making my editorial inside a bag and having a tag that hangs inside the spine so it give the readers a experience that they don’t get much, I pitched this idea to David and he liked the idea and how it could create some impact on the readers as it’s easy to do and will give a bit more concept to the editorial outcome especially if the work is put on display.

a point that discussed with a peer in the call was that to use their conclusion as it include their opinion but I could helpful to look because it give visuals and a strong message they could design into twit editorial.

speaking in my tutorial I felt a b it behind because some of the group had designed some of their editorial while I felt that didn’t know where to start and what part I wanted to use David advice to me was just pick anything ng and start designing it’s the best way to get your ideas out and it can be changed but just. using a mood board can make you question more ideas and will make me more stuck so in the next couple of days I will be starting to make rough design layouts and exploring my ideas.

Before joining the call I felt that I didn’t really want to include many imagery on my work I want my editorial to be more text based but a mixture of handwritten fonts created by myself but also typical digital ones, while speaking to David he discussed that idea of maybe making packaging inside my spreads so using photoshop using boxes of packaging and place my quotes inside there, I feel this idea could work but I would need to experiment with it before setting my head on this idea.

taking from this editorial tutorial I will be exploring my ideas on indiesgn in the next couple of days and exploring colour choices that are not pink as the p ink idea might be too repeating and could be seen as the typical norm of female designs, I will taking on board David advice of using photoshop to make my own packaging and then come back in mu next tutorial with a rough mock up of my ideas to show.
