since the brief was set and I picked my idea about consumerism and how the consumers just buy for a type of identity that they get with brand/product without. Knowing the real truth behind the brands and where the product comes from, I wanted to design some collage work to see if it could get my message across.
while improving my idea over the last week and thinking in my depth about my idea I. realised collage work might not get my message across that strong but I still felt I wanted experiment the ideas in my onto a design as it might work or might not, I feel having this this idea as a starting point could really help me think in more depth of what I want to do.
handmade collage- showing we are part of the clothes being wasted
above is the frist experimental collage that I designed this was a cut out on 4 different thing, a hand to link to a person e.g yourself to get the person to feel they are connected not just others then the clothes I stuck with double side foam pads to make it look 3D and stand out the clothes represent the fast fashion and all the clothes we throw away after a while then a small women that works making your clothes and women in Indian that cut our clothes up to use as threads to make more clothes, the smoke is to represent all the travel of the clothes as fast fashion is 7% of the air pollution from sending all theses clothes from different place.
While this was a quick design idea to see if my Idea would work I can say that handmade outcome works as art project but I don’t think this as much impact to get across my message of the waste of fashion and the identity that’s given it won’t really make people want to change they would just look at the outcome and think yeah that’s cool and move on with their lives like a lot people do. to explore my idea a bit more I want to explore collage work quickly on software on digital platform such procreate and photoshop I only spent 10 mintues on the outcome as I didn’t want to waste too much time on the outcome as I know this concept isn’t my final outcome.
while designing the digital one it was faster cut out thing and I could go back places if I didn’t feel ike it didn’t cut right however I feel the handmade collage was more to play with and layer and think about while I still think both outcomes won’t give enough impact this project has allowed me to explore design. I wouldn’t normally go for and I will probably come back to collage working again in a later date as I found this task really simple to do and enjoyable but the ideas just don’t work for this project.
