from my last blog of coming up with ideas for my book cover for the penguin competition, I wasn’t very sure on the rough sketch design I felt the whole book cover was very dark and didn’t fully connect with the cover of the book and some part of narrative so I set myself a task to go away and make another book cover from the 9 rough book cover ideas I made a couple of days again, this blog is showing off the new idea that I will probably be using to develop more for the penguin book competition.
As I said above I wasn’t fully sure on the other book cover so I wanted to make a new one that I felt had a meaning and was eye-catching in visual design to draw people over to read into the book but not give away too much, the cover I really sketched out on procreate works better then the other draft this idea has more of a mysterious look to it but also connects with the narrative in a methodical way.
The design above is the draft of my concept idea 2 for the book cover, to help myself make the book cover I used the penguin template for the chosen book theme to use as it a guide to see where design elements should start and end to see if any details could be cropped out wrong or was there enough space to design certain elements of the book cover while using this method I found it really helpful to use as it gave a rough visual look of what the idea could look like and it helped me think of things that should and shouldn’t be on the cover.
The idea behind this ideas was to use the narrative of character meeting and giving the prop of speical contract paepr that had to be locked away and the whole improrant information is what the story Kinda bases around I feel the this was huge event and was an idea to use to desiign the cover so I went with paper to be destroyed because the paper is imprant but in the story, everything falls apart because of theses paper so destory the paper gives a bit of dangrous look and mysterious look like no one know if it links to the story too much or is it just a prop elemtn to the bookc cover to make it look nice, the rwason why I have gone for an eye to stand out for the book was because the maiin character is a manger at night hw says in the book he watches a lot of stuff happend and hes also a spy so I went along to use this as a design eleemnt of the eeye watching you e.g the viewr it’s creepy but also catchy to the eye of the aduince to wonder with the question of why what, who this will make people want to pick up the book and buy so the design method works in a good way.
By looking at the draft cover above I feel that draft cover work very well together and connection of the design works well with the paper rips going across the back I feel if the back of the cover was just simple it wouldn’t be as effective so I will use this rough design as a start point and see where the developments of making it on software will end like.
