printed matters – reflection

For term two of field, I was placed into the class called “printed matters” I was very happy that I had been given one of my field choices and I knew could use it to gain knowledge and relate to my main course of graphic design and learn more about printing stuff to take back into graphic however either I didn’t know what to expect from this project before starting as printing is so wide however I felt that if I could help myself improve as a designer with experimenting and more knowledge on printing stuff It would be a useful term.

In the first session of the printed matters, I realized that the project I was going to be doing in the next couple of weeks was very open and up to me on what theme and how I wanted to present my idea. when I first started I felt very worried that I wouldn’t do well as I feel like a graphic design student here my course would give us our outcome needs and brief of what to follow giving us structure and having this project it made me have to push myself and think more out of the box then I normally would do in graphic by having this project I feel it been really nice to have the freedom and no right or wrong to the outcome that would be given away.

After the first session, I was very full-on by pushing myself to think of ideas, look at ideas and research to get the best outcome by inspiration, within the first week I had come up with an idea that I wanted to design for my printed matter and it was going to be a black. and white blinded book, however, throughout the week my idea improve by adding more details from screenprinting on my ideas, changing my book to a book box case to hold my photos to then changing my idea from a wide photo book to a theme book of Amsterdam that screenprinting on, this is the point of the project I thought I set on then while designing the book there some errors with my screenprinting and everything falling apart as the screenprints weren’t sitting on the photos perfectly. While I felt the project was falling apart I came to the idea of making my book by hand and digital design by doing anything creative and seeing it came out even if it wasn’t perfect the idea of having a book that was about the idea of art not being perfectly suited my whole theme because some of the photos very perfect and then others were not so amazing.

By changing my book a handful of times by small details to a whole theme and ideas of my book from research and experimenting small test, this project has helped me a designer to not always set on an idea from the start allow the experiments to take place and see what other ideas will flow in the brain while working to get the best outcome, this project has helped me realize that I shouldn’t take too much time and panic about what color or theme I should do and just pick one as the outcome can be changed and theres never a wrong way it will also help me improve on my time management.

To end this project, I have really enjoy the last couple of weeks because it’s allowed me so much freedom to design my own work to explore my own design style and what I love from screenprinting to letter pressing and learning thing from book blinding, even though there has a been a couple of bumps along the way of designing my outcome they have all been learning cuvers from pushing for ideas to explore ideas more and thinking about problems I can get with designing certain ways, the main thing I have learned from this project is to believe in my work is good and not evening is rubbish but the most important one has been making myself realize that I shouldn’t think about my design choices too much and just to go with as thinking too much can make my view of the work worse.
