on display- final ideas

To help set myself up for this project a method that I like to do is to set up a brainstorm of the different areas that are important at the start to understand what you want to design the project about this can be seen as the background of the brand for  this project as it’s the story of the brand, name, themes of the work and colour themes that are getting picked. Having all the information that I was thinking about in one place has helped me try and connect everything tougher without having to go back and forward between pages of work or blogs while designing.

Name of brand for  the exhibition

while thinking about all the brand background information one of the places that I did struggle with was coming up a name that fit in with the project theme but was also simple to understand to someone that’s not long, so brands in 2019 have crazy long brand names or have ones that so odd spelt that the client never really remembers them, I knew that the name had to be catchy and something that could be easy to remember but not too boring.

Before brainstorming some words that linked to my theme I was stuck with the name of ” the glitch on the brain” however I felt it was very basic could link to any brain glitch from mental health, AHD and on the other hand it was way too long for a catchy brand name so I knew making a brainstorm would help me. After I spent a while thinking of words and looking online to link to dyslexia and the brain.  after going and forward to the word mind map of brand names I came up with putting a twist on my words, specially as being a dyslexic person we can often spell words wrong as we can’t connect the sound of the letter with right one, I thought about the word Disconnected  ( the word links to the brain of a dlysexic person as left side doesn’t fully connect in area that’s why we have errors within reading and writing) and merging it with the word dyslexia the start of dyslexia sounds like DIS so merging them will still make disconnected sound normal but its got the merge of both words I will also add in grammar marks to add more of a twist onto.  the brand name is called Dys – connected.

target audience

Deciding what target audience I want to go with was very easy for me to pick the people I feel that will connected with the exhibition should be based on, people with dyslexia is the main people that the work will connect with but I want to get my audience to be teenagers – adults I feel theses people will be good to get the work be based on so they can understand what peers or their family members can visual see and struggle with, having a wide target audience can be hard to base my work on but having it open can make me experiment more within my work so I want to take this challenge on as a designer.

Narrative

While learning about branding  one thing I have learnt is that every brand has a narrative ( story ) behind it, it can br the story of how they got there or what they want the brand to be, the story I want my brand to be is about getting people to understand dlyseicxa and not push it to a side or laugh at any persons spelling mistake, the narrative of exhibition I want to show is ;

  • what is dlysexica
  • what we see as people
  • the effects are brain play on us
  • how the brain copes
  • how people deal with
  • then the negative space of always thinking even if it’s confusing

Each part of this project I will try and rule of each part of the narrative I want to show this can be through the exhibition or the design work that helps sell the brand Exhibition.

Theme of art work

like colour scheme  it’s also important to include themes inside your work that keep your work stuck tougher and all flow and due this project have a theme title to link to I had to think of the themes that make my topic link the Glitch theme or else it wont work, AS my project is linking to dlysexica I’m thinking about using the issues we have from reading to be my visual themes that are designed throughout the brand theses are;

  • missing parts – we often miss a letter or we forgot to write words in
  • blur – sometimes are eyes will play games up on us
  • movement – words can move on the page

colour scheme

the colour scheme that I didecde to go with is the colour of overlays that people can use in their glasses or a plastic sit on top of paper theses colours that can help people with dyslexic see the words better on the page instead of harsh white where words can have movement or blur to theme putting people off reading, as theres a handful of colours of overall out there to use I decide to cut it down to Blue, green, yellow and pink as theses colour are soft colours but are the most poplar helpful overlays, I think using theses colours can give awareness about overlays and using non white paper for people to see, An idea that I have in mind for my posters is that I want to design the poster in the different colours so each poster as its own narrative with its own colour to go along side.

colours that are getting used will pastel blue, pink/ red , yellow, green theses are primary colour but useful colours for people I will also use black and white as block colours to stand out on the colour backgrounds
