to kick start year 5 ( second year of university) in my new branding module a week project was launch to help start getting my brain working with ideas and trying out thinking methods of getting rid of basic ideas and just sticking to them even if we love them, as a designer its very easy to think of an idea and stick to it this task was to design 100 logos. each logo has to be different this idea was to help create ideas and keep going without stopping or giving up.
when I first got given this 100 logo design project to do in a week I felt that I couldn’t be done and it would flop however taking some time to sit down and writing some ideas down or taking photos of anything that gave me ideas helped add up every little detail before making a start on the work.

the first 20 ideas for my own brand logo came flying out my brain so fast and they so easy to make but slowly after hitting 20 my brain was giving up on day one I felt that this was a sign of ” give up and take a break go and find some more stuff that helps you be inspired “. having the time off and finding new ideas I took more time to design ideas.
A method I decided to try out was to think of things that link to my personality and life but also graphic the list start at ;

by using this method to think of words that link to me in certain ways helped me move on from being stuck on an odd number that wasn’t close to 100 logos, my design was slowly adding up but many times I felt of way I could change ways that previous design more moved around and set up but I knew that wouldn’t help me as a designer to improve my idea thinking.

after thinking I hint 100 when really I counted wrong late at night and only got 95 i realised this small project was very useful as it made me believe in myself for coming up with many ideas I know in the future if I take a little bit longer to brainstorm ideas and use the world around me to help inspire me then I can come up with number of ideas but it has also taught me that you use should need 100 ideas as the best ideas start coming out halfway through when designing.

when the project was set a week ago I knew everyone would be showing their 100 logos in front of each other so we can all look how we did but use each other ideas to see what logos work the best out of everything we design as a group.
in the 2 hour session we had 15 minutes to walk around looking at everyone looks seeing if there was any logo that stood out the most to us or way we could design logo it just a way to see what everyone had in their mind everyone had very different logos or people would have some similar logo you could also see who was the person that went online and copied logos that searched up. even though I did look online for ideas to help me start I didn’t copy every element where some people do in the class I feel that this isn’t very helpful as they aren’t really learning anything it’s just copying so I’m glad I stuck to my way of thinking.
Theo set a dot method task to the group this method was a design method that I never heard of until today the method was very useful to find out in a group what design were creative and professional, with the dot method everyone had 5 orange dots and 5 blue the blue represents professional design and the orange represented creativity with the design, while walking around I got to stick a dot people work with the dot I felt that fitted well, once finished I was very shocked to see that some of my logos had both dots on as a designer this made me feel better about my work knowing people think my work is a good level where normally i would put myself down.
I will definitely be asking people to do the dot method with my work again as its very useful to have other designer opinion on your work but also gives a bit of a confidence boost, I also believe that the 100 logo project was great as it allowed me to get my brain back in the gear with design logos for the big upcoming project that I will be designing in the next couple of weeks.
