Since handing in my editorial draft spreads I have now been giving back digital feedback on my spread, I took sometime to read my feedback looking and what I should do to improve my design, I already knew I wasn’t a huge fan of my outcome and I would be changing it.
The feedback I had was to look at my spreads looking at my errors of grids layouts, windows all theses items can be fixed, my spread two was also brought up as it doesn’t really fit in my theme and my other two, I will be using this to change my design, I have also had pointers to change my typeface to a lower size, maybe making my pull out quotes in the same style of my title and seeing if colour would help my design, I will use all this to help me improve.
While thinking about my feedback in the last couple days I have come to the idea of change my layout of my designs and changing elements to see if a new layout and adding more details to the design will create a different look to my work . To help me have a visual idea of my editorial designs I went in to Procreate and started to draw some rough sketches to give me a visual look of my new ideas and seeing what works and what doesn’t.
Above is my first rough sketch of a new design layout for my 3 article spreads I have kept the same design for my first spread from my digital draft from my submission as I believe it was very strong looking and simple design that worked well, I went to design a second spread in the idea of a glitch photo in two parts with text place around the design and leaving enough place for the quotes and white space, I want to add in colours the layout of text to create a better pace,
Below is my second rough idea sketch I tried to design a new layout for my spreads I wanted to try and experiment with a different idea for each page pace and what they look I want to use the imagery I have already but created some type based spread for the 2nd one, in this idea I’ve decided adding a colour spread in the middle would made help make the story of the article pop.
From designing theses two draft layouts to help my come up with ideas to develop my magazine spread I feel that I can easily make my work a lot better with using theses ideas to layout as guidelines, to pick them I can’t fully pick one draft design I like both for different reasons, I really want to experiment with the ideas to see what would work visual and that creative on a page .
