Time for creative my digital spread, I started off with making my fruit spread that everyone would see on indesign the first thing I started off by doing was setting up the pages on indesign.
I created 7 pages the first page is going to be a couple of left page on the first spread this something I’m going to design to make my work look unique and different from others but that will something else to make and design another time.
To start of my designing progress on the first spread I went in to start playing around with the title on the left hand side page, I wanted to experiment with different ideas of having the text moving this what I started with.
I love the typeface it’s called “Questa Grande” it look very stylish but also classic, the playfulness of the text works well but I want to try out trying to get my text to fade so I will be going into photoshop and trying out different ideas and then I will pick.
A starting point that I will do in most of my spreads at the start is to place all the start that I cut down from the article that I made in a word document, placing the text wasn’t that hard as using my sketches in my sketch book I had a rough idea where stick everything.
When designing the text layout I made sure to use the grids and on both sides of the spreads I used 3 grids and the baseline grid to know where to place the text and make it look sleek .
The text typefaces I chose to use was Questa at point size of 11 for the main text in a regular design and for the subhead above was the size 20 with Questa italic.All of the text is Justify all Lines, this will have to be changed or sorted as there’s a lot of rivers.
When I read an article I also like to know the page number and sometimes that article name so if I stop reading I can remember the number to go to it, I felt that this Was a simple need to go on my design I went on to create a couple master pages that include the name of the article and lines with page number under.
below is the simple design of the master page I design for the page right on spread one, I didn’t want to put a page name or number on the left hand side of the spread because that the frist page and it simple to know it from a reader view.
creating the master page took some time to create as I wanted the measurement to look the same on each spread but on opposite side such spread one right page would be page number top and name bottom, spread two would be opposite.
I had to use a youtube tutorial to remember how to open up to design the master page once I created one I knew who to design the other two.
Above is the development of the spread 1, I have added in the page one full page image thats out of focus, I wanted an image that dark/ grey and out of focus of the sea Because the article talks a lot about holiday and cruises so linked the first couple paragraph to this image the blurriness is to represent how susie feel about looking back on the past its blurry and hard to see as she can’t remember .
after adding the Image I went on to add in the draft layout for the title that I will changing later but adding the main heading gives an idea of what everything will feel like once everything is added in.
in the 2nd draft I added in another quote on the right side of the spread on the bottom I felt that this question was needed as it questions the article and people living it and how susie feels about life.
adding in small detail such as the line was just a creative experiment to see if it gave the article more a creative side then just a plain simple article with just text it was also to separate certain areas such as the title and the small synopsis on the left side of the page. I also added it to above the quotes and above to just make then stand out a bit more then the main texts .
Another experiment I took on in this draft was changing the way how text was display I took the text from justify all lines to Align left, I don’t really like the layout of this because of the edges but it’s good to document.
Above has a tiny change that I wanted to show through my development, to make my article be a bit more creative I felt adding in paint marks would be a creative thing as I felt that paint gives everything a bit more of colour and by experimenting with it in my image creating I wanted to see if it would work in my designs and help bring something to stand out. the best idea I had was to stick it behind the quotes as it then made them pop out on the page and page had some colour.
An improvement I was recommed was to lighten the colour due to my theme b being a bit dark and upsetting having something g bright could confuse people.
I also but the text all back to Justify all lines as I going to Matt the Technical help guy to ask for some help on how to stop all the rivers, I also recommend to play around with the rivers I could make more rivers to make it look like susie miswriting the article and see forgetting her words but I didn’t feel that it would work and readers would get annoyed of it.

editorial project – title type experiment
To see what title I preferred I stuck them both on the left page of the spread to see what I prefer I love them photo I do feel that 1st design worked more well in a creative way for an article and the second one would work more packaging or a poster that linked to the article.
the first title design also links to the background image as I used a wave effect on the title in photoshop so everything has a link, I feel that the text having movement if another thing some with memory loss can feel is everything is moving when they look at it .
After speaking to matt he gave me the support I need on sorting out my text, I ended up having the change how the displayed I changed it from Justify all lines to justify with last lines alighted left this took out the massive rivers within the paragraphs however the 4 paragraph thats in the middle there still a big gap I disliked so I went on to play around with it later on.
Adding in the final title brought the first page more together and meant I was ready to do a test print , because I added in a paint mark on the 
quote I had to repeat it on the other quote to make all the text look the same, I remove the lines I as I felt that they had no need anymore in the design above to quotes.
I changed the layout of the text to see different designs but I’m not likening this design but I will go a head to do the text print and change it after.
The test print really helped me to look at the texts on paper instead on software, sometimes the software can give a false look in your work as title can look small so you make then bigger but when you print it comes out so huge.
the test print showed me that subhead size was a good size at size 20 and quotes worked well at 15 pt on questa italic, a mistake I saw was in the synopsis there was a type error so I went on to change it before creating my last draft spread.
After doing the test print I went and changes the synopsis error and change the text layout by make each paragraph have a baseline grids gap between each new paragraph I also remove the last quote as I felt it sat so awkwardly on the page I put it back in the main text paragraph and just change it from regular questa to italic you can see it a quote in the main text.
another thing I went in to change was the small detail on of the lines instead of everything being black I added in a small detail of grey just to have something different to look at. To develop the paint marks I added in a grey paint mark to sit on top of the purple to give the perfect colour that wasn’t to bright or dark it was a perfect colour that it in the neutral theme but stood out a bit.
I moved around a subheading on right had side of the page putting for space between the paragraphs and also had a new page subtitle to fill in some space by adding in the subtitle I felt it helped put the spread more together.
the paragraph had been moved around many times in this. project I felt this layout work as it was very simple and sleek and it looks like it reflecting the other page with the sea out line.
