Today was book blinding workshop that I got to sign up for in university, I was recommended for book blinding by a lot of tutors within my art school due to the skill was seen as a useful thing to know about and have, by having the chance I took it to help myself expand my skill set while in year one .
The book blind workshop took places within two hours of having a watching session while creating myself with peers, the steps of book blinding were very simple but when you don’t know what you’re really doing it’s hard to do.
Book blinding method
( not whole guide just everything simple looking into method)
- Step 1- clean work area and collect materials and experiment
- Pencil
- Ruler
- PVA glue
Decent art paper
Needle and thread
Stanley knife
Paper creaser
Book blinding hole pusher
Thick cardboard
Net/cloth same size of paper
Step 2- fold all paper like the side of a book flatten the lines with the paper creaser, put one page in another so each paper is a set of two.
Step 3- using the pencil and ruler marker 4 dots on the blind of the paper this where you will see the pages together once all dots are down push the book blinder hole marker throw the dots to make a whole
Step 4- cut thread about one metre long and tie two knots in it once place in needle on not at the enter on needle hole and the other knot on the end of the thread, start by putting your thread and needle through the first two pages by going up and down in each whole pull tight .
Step 4- grab the next two papers and go over into the other side of pages go under and up then when you get the second hole you’ve now got go back into you first two pages and go up and through the middle holes and go back the newest two pages once you get the end cut and knot the first and second pages together to hold together this is a confusing method. Repeat until the end .
Step 5 – using the pva fuel stick the cloth on the pages on the blends this going to be to hold the pages tight together and protect the inside of the book, set the glue dry don’t worry if it messy no one will see it .
Step 5- it’s time to cut your cardboard to make the hardback cover, measure your height and blinder area bigger the pages add about 2 inches on so the cardboard will over hang the pages giving it a better look.
Step 6- time to cut out the cardboard and pick your cover marital once you’ve picked , lay out the cardboard on the inside of the martial and glue them on .
Step 7- cut the extra hanging area of the marital bin the none useful stuff and fold in the partial on the inside of the cardboard and glue it this is now your fancy cover but make sure you’ve push down hard and push out all of the air.
Step 8- glue the back pages in the book and let dry for 24 hours and you’ve now got your own book created by yourself.
