protest – oxymoron picking the idea

Tuesday 22nd January – 2nd week of collaboration

Today is the second day the oxymoron task week in my small group of me and Laura, In todays time spent in university me and Laura sat tougher and tried to come up with ideas of what we could create within our oxymoron words of ‘valuable waste”.  we have both said we are struggling a bit of what to create due to graphic background were keep thinking something a good idea until we remember that includes text.

In the morning I spent about an hour sat with my Mac writing down somethings that valuable to people and things that are seen as a waste to see if any ideas would pop to my head . here is the ideas I thought about;

Things that are valuable to people

  • Holidays gift
  • Cards
  • Badges
  • Teddies
  • Collectables
  • Phones
  • Photos
  • Rings from marriage
  • Childhood toys
  • Drawings made by a child
  • Shells

Waste items

-packaging

-ripped up items

-broken items

-food

When thinking about what people valve and is waste I had a few ideas that could work for this oxymoron task, below are some of the idea I thought about and pointed out to Laura about creating.

  1. Moving gif’s
  2. Collage – bin in the middle with items that are valuables on one side and stuff that’s rubbish on others, items cut up
  3. Different illustrations of things that are valve able that can go on protest posters for later on in the protest – Hand drawn or screen-printed
  4. A stop motion of someone swapping over rubbish for something that’s valuables to someone.
  5. Items made into a logo
  6. Collage of ripped up cards in a shape of something that’s rubbish with a illustration onto

After working on my own for the hour or so I had a long discussion with Laura with coming up with ideas of what we could create and how we both decide we straight away wanted to make something that handmade and not digital like always, the idea of making a collage worked very well in our heads so we went on to create another brainstorm that induce our strengths and what we could include.

While making the brainstorm Laura had a very different collage idea to me where I wanted to cut up and take photos of items people have that they valve but can be seen as waste to make a background and a illustration on to top, Laura idea was all about making the whole college on illustrations.  Due to us both wanting to create something very different we put our ideas tougher of making the collage background of my idea and her drawings onto that we will create with the screen-printing method.

To start of our making I went to hobby craft to buy some black card of A3 we can use as the background layer to stick and hold everything together, the next step I will be doing is taking the photos of things before making them into cut up pictures.
