Constellation- 1000 blog post – 2018

 

Autumn term – constellation 1000 word blog post.

When starting the first term of university in my first year I was given a subject of this called constellation, I went in to my first ever lecture of constellation not knowing what to expect, to find that it was about learning a new study group topic that I picked from out fours choices. within the study group I get to learn and practice  some basic skills of English that I will need to use throughout my three years in university theses Thursday lecture will and has help me improve myself as a better student.

The constellation study group I had thankful got was one of the most popular ones of “teen spirt ” also known as subculture study group, I was extremely  happy to be going to this study group as it was something I found very interesting and fun to learn plus to listen about each week, I knew if I didn’t have a study group that was interesting I would of gave up and not want to go then get stressed and anxious about making essays for constellation .

In every lecture there was a different subculture scene  group I would be learning from each group brought different style and meaning to them.

below is most of the subcultures groups I studied in class and what I got from studying them all, most of the subcultures I got to learn from, when learning about each one I found out that all the cutlers have a lot of small things in command like that all the subculture had a reason for everything they did from designs on clothes, body images and the way they act this was a way to get a voice or freedom from a issues happening in that time .

Hippies – 1st ever constellation class

• they express themselves with natural items everything is about freedom
• has influenced cultures like vegan and hippies still
• everything has a meaning from hair, advertisement, clothes, cars

hip hop 

• Changing the look of items like shoes and taking the laces out them to show they rebels .
•  Would steal things like car badges to wear them as necklaces this was a crime but the hip hop lads wanted to be seen as hard people.
• Everything had to be branded as they wanted to show wealth even if they didn’t have the money .
• city based
• They would wear things to big themselves up to make people believe they had powers they all wanted respect by people.

punks

• They have inflicted trends in 2018 of ripped jeans ,shoes .
• They would wear whatever stool out to get attention for examples they would stick random items like tampons, stables in the ear holes.
• everything was custmizniaed with chains, badges, rips , graffiti on
• Didn’t want to be known as a mainstream .
• Would get in criminal activities .

zoot suits

• The items that were worn as the suit were taken from a past trend and changed to suit them to help them, it helped them get their voice heard.
• city based culture
• Meaning of the looks were seen visual, everything had a meaning .
• The suiters broke rules and came a criminal actively by the riots and stealing of suits, gang wars, just like punks .
• even though the group was infused by gangster their style was send soon influenced the teddy boys.

stream punks

Customisation used to the maxim level of using old style item of engine and making them into bags  this is seen as ‘ resignification” as they are using old parts and turning them into something else.

• the customisation helps the person show their own identify
• very creative people, they help give meaning to the old times can even be seen to help remember the old times to how we got the 21st century

Harajuku

• Based in japan, they liked to mix didn’t sweat style to get a unique look everything is brought from the past into now.
• Everything is hand made based they make things from the old subculture.
• the clothings helped them to have an identity so being over board with make up and clothing helps you be a better person.
• this subculture is happening now it doesn’t really work like the other subculture within wanting freedom or sonneting they just use it to express themselves just like the zoot suiters.

 

From competing all of the term one of constellation in my first year I’m happy to say that the lesson has helped me in different ways and I’m so proud of myself as I got learn a lot of new franstinc information on different and subculture and  understanding the struggles of theirs and got over some fears of my of using English’s on the whole knowing I don’t have to be the best at English to do good.

what I have learnt from constellation wasn’t just different people within others beliefs from the mainstream and that includes their background in other  time scenes  I have learnt a skill of how to paraphrase articles in a book and online to make them understandable in my head and faster to read, even though this skill isn’t the at my best level of performance I’ve been improving bit by bit Im going to be taking this onto my work and helping myself in my studio work and the next constellations classes.

Another things I have learnt in constellation is that everything in the world has a bigger picture and meaning even without anyone even knowing at times, simply from things like a colour of a shape on a poster being used has a bigger meaning to some people and some wouldn’t know, by simple ideas will always have a big picture to others by figureing this out by this goes onto my next thing I leant in constellation.

This is that everything in the world can be mixed tougher as a designer we can use other background like other designs areas or education and mix them to get a different unique outcome, we don’t have to still to rules of design that we are told we should go out and do what we want and try other things this will make a better product. This is something I’ve taken into my studies as I believe trying other methods of styles and mixing them is fun outcome for example I’m mixing graphic design with product design right now for final outcome to help promote my campaign in my group.

The challenges I had from constellation was that I started of with constellation worried and scared that I wouldn’t get good grades as I’m not best at reading fast or using big words in my essay or the meaning I have spent a couple of times in class searching up what the word meant to help but I’ve also had to read the print outs the night before to give me a head start before class so I fall behind everyone .

Another challenge I had from constellation was not knowing how to get theory and not having enough, Cath my constellation tutor had an hour talk after constellation to help us not to stress over the work this gave a lot of help as it was calming and in the talks she pointed us on help guides.

One of the last worries I had near the end of the term in constellation was me thinking about the word count stressing I wouldn’t know what to write or even if I would hit it, soon as I started to break down my work of getting the photo doing Point, analysis, theory it helped me know what to write and soon I started to write words were flying 1000 words out loud sound a lot but soon as you starting typing it’s not a lot.

Issues I’m worried about still to this day about constellation is not doing good enough to pass constellation meaning I wouldn’t be able to get on to next years of my degree in graphics. From the start of constellation to now finishing the first term I feel that I didn’t have many worries about constellation other then not knowing what to expect so I over come this challenge on my first day of constellation and enjoyed it so much, I still worry about my main case study not having enough theory but I will make sure I’ve given myself a lot of time to research and look around .
