type and image – history movement feedback
On Tuesday the 20th of November I was giving my first feedback for my first university project that was a poster based on a history movement, within the feedback it given me help way to improve on areas to improve as a student and a designer.
I’ve been given a week to use my feedback. within this week I’ve looked over my work and make some small and even some big changes to the poster that I want to do, this is a way to develop my work better from before this is due to the feedback helping me understand what would be done better.
feedback points to improve on.
learning journal-“there needs to be more reflective. Currently, in most cases, you are logging what you have done on a lesson by lesson basis, but we need to see more insight into what you are learning and how the sessions that you take part in are informing your learning and fundamentally your outcomes.”
“You also need to punctuate as some posts are a couple of very long sentences”.
one of the points that I got in my feedback that I need to improve on and change is my learning journal, on how I write it as I don’t really reflect on my work or the lessons on how they have help what’s my strength weakness, with this point I’ve taken note of it and even gone back to my old blog post looking where can improve on.
The second point on learning journal was how long my sentences are, I’ve always struggled with with writing due to being dyslexic however when writing my blog I’m going to spend more time on them and making sure they aren’t too long to make sure.
ideas & development mock ups
“sketchbook starts really well in relation to research and ideation for this project with some positive illustrations of existing practice.
While there is a good sense of exploration of research and your own initial ideas in the form of sketches, these haven’t been developed into mock ups. Exploring a number of existing designs at the development stages of your working method, will place you in best stead to create your strongest outcomes.”
I’m happy with my feedback on my ideas and sketch book but I’m also glad that I’ve got feedback that I can use to improve as it’s my first project I didn’t really know what to do include a lot in.
Due to me going back into my poster to develop it more and trying another layout I went back to my ideas of design layouts, I tried to use theses layout as a draft base and mix them making them Moore developed them all into a finally outcome.
Below are some of the developments that took part to get to my outcome.
final outcomes poster feedback
Your final poster is a dynamic response to the brief, but it does little to reimagine the Movement. The red shapes could have been utilised further with the inclusion of other elements relative to the movement.
The main images frame the poster in a positive manner and there is a good sense of play within the outcome but there is lots of negative space and I wonder is the space could have been explored further in terms of balance, contrast and especially path for the eye. Reconsider merging some of your initial sketches with this poster design to get the best outcome possible. Also reflect on what you want to say about the movement”
From the outcome feedback it helped me in a way to change and improve my poster and where to change it, I felt that the feedback was good to help me improve massively.
my starting point was reading my feedback while having my poster outcome as it helped me see what could be changed and what was good within my poster design.
After the reading and looking at my poster I went on to decide that I wanted to go back to my poster and try and change I did this by starting looking at my layout design that I made at the start of the project this was pointed out to me by David my tutor.
Looking at my design ideas layouts I found this was a helpful thing to do as it popped ideas of things I could try out for example trying to include text on a box shape going across the screen or something, this would help fill the dead space also that was an issues.
My main idea was to keep some of my elements from before such as my two types of images based elements as they worked well within my poster and gave the poster some meaning, such as the eye watching the city this has a metaphor meaning of someone watching over I tried to link this into the poster movement because within the time in the movement there was a war going on so I want to show the people in the time how they were acting. but I started on my old poster and moving around elements to see where can start and what outcome could be created with moving and delete elements.

On the left is the poster I had in for my final outcome for the project and got feedback on and on the right is the poster decided I wanted to improve on.
The change that I created was with deleting the some the triangle shapes and moving text, the developed poster as it fills more of the dead spaced and it all created more of a geometric shape lusttion as the triangle were set to make a blocky line shapes but I felt that there could of been more to help make the triangle shapes stand out .

I found a simple idea of how to shape the triangles a bit more then just having them sat on the poster, by adding simple black lines to the certain sides of the shape it gave it a bit more debt and detail then a plain red one as it can be seen as a shadow to.
I believe that this idea has helped my poster be improved a bit then my first poster I handed in as it theres more of a character layout in the poster, but I went on to try another idea with changing the layout and using other elements.
Developing

To help build up my poster more I chose to go and change my main element from just being triangle I wanted to go and mix some elements up to make the poster for interesting to look at, I went on to try basic items like lines and just added up the amount while I moved the layouts .
I used one of my idea design I made in my sketch book at the frist of this project with the method of making a box going across the screen with writing on, slowly I started to build up on my stages such as making another box and using lines ideas to give thing more details, I even tried adding another basic shape of a circle and seeing what it would look like.
I found this layout looked so much more creative and eye catching when looking at it even thought theres a lot of shapes theses help the poster as it push the eye into the middle where the information is, I have also change the size of the text for the three paragraph and layouts to make it more interesting to look at.

georgia smith – improved constructivism poster
above are my final outcomes of the new layout I tried out by playing with different elements of shapes and the layouts, on the left I tired to use my two colour themes within the shapes however I didn’t like the top right of the poster had too many red shapes within so I went on to change all the certain shapes to have colours things idea worked very well in my eye.
I really love the outcome that I got by creating another layout with more shapes on, I feel like the feedback gave me a good push it was like the strength I need to help improve, the poster feels like it got more of a character and suits the brief of movement and has a lot of meaning behind it.
In this feedback I feel like I had a weakness of having to think of way to kill off the big amount of dead space but I over come this weakness by going back on myself and looking in my sketch at the start and using other ideas and mixing them to get a b better out come this would be seen as a strength as I sung my own work to help improve myself.
